Aviation Maintenance Training Center

The development of any industry requires high-quality human resources as a foundation. In order to align with national policies and meet the industry’s demand for aircraft maintenance personnel and certification training—while further elevating Taiwan’s aviation maintenance training to meet international regulatory standards—National Formosa University (NFU) applied to the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA), Ministry of Transportation and Communications, to establish the “NFU Aircraft Maintenance Training Center” (hereafter “the Center”), in compliance with the CAA regulation “05-02A Regulations for Establishing Civil Aviation Personnel Training Organizations.” Simultaneously, the university established the “Aircraft Maintenance Bachelor Degree Program” on campus, in accordance with the “Enforcement Rules of the University Act,” allowing currently enrolled students to apply for transfer into the program.

The developmental positioning and focus of the Aircraft Maintenance Bachelor Degree Program are aimed at enabling students from related departments to receive formal aviation maintenance training that meets international civil aviation certification standards. This strengthens their professional capabilities and perspectives, enhances technical problem-solving skills, and grants eligibility to take the national certification exam for civil aviation maintenance licenses. For students dedicated to pursuing a career in aviation maintenance, the program provides a more complete preparation for future professional endeavors.

A major feature of this program is the combination of a “degree + license” model. The curriculum is designed to meet both the Ministry of Education’s requirements for awarding a bachelor’s degree and the aviation maintenance training and certification requirements set by aviation regulations. As a result, students in this program will, upon completing the standard four-year university education, not only earn a bachelor’s degree but also gain eligibility to sit for the CAA’s “Aircraft Maintenance Engineer” license exam. According to CAA planning, the Center may even be authorized to administer the certification exam in the future. Graduates of this program may obtain the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license simultaneously, giving them a 4–6 year competitive advantage compared to peers pursuing aviation maintenance careers through other pathways.
